The project
Spotty Media rebuilt the sō-lō Restaurant website in WordPress using Elementor, replacing an older framework that was difficult to update and incompatible with the WordPress and PHP versions available at the time.
The brief was to keep the design the restaurant already liked while giving the site a more manageable foundation. Launched on 29 July 2024, the rebuild now forms part of an ongoing website maintenance relationship, including new menu uploads every quarter.
sō-lō is Tim Allen’s restaurant in Aughton. Its website already had a visual identity the client wanted to retain, but the framework underneath it had become a practical problem.
It was not compatible with the then-latest WordPress and PHP versions, and making everyday changes was not straightforward for the restaurant team. The project needed to address that technical limitation without treating a familiar design as something that had to be replaced.
We rebuilt the website using WordPress and Elementor, basing the presentation on the existing design and making minor refinements along the way.
That distinction mattered. The restaurant was not asking for a rebrand or a completely different look. Our role was to preserve what the client liked while moving away from the framework that was making the site harder to maintain.
Elementor was chosen to make the website easier for the client to update. The editing experience was part of the brief, rather than an afterthought to the finished design.
For a restaurant, a website has to accommodate changing information after launch. The rebuild provided an Elementor editing route, while Spotty Media remained available to handle the agreed maintenance and content changes.
The rebuilt website went live on 29 July 2024. That marked the move from the old framework to the WordPress and Elementor build, with the familiar design retained and minor refinements in place.
The launch was one milestone in a longer relationship. Spotty Media has continued to look after the website since the rebuild, rather than handing over a finished site and leaving it at that.
We upload new menus to the sō-lō website every quarter. This gives the ongoing work a regular, practical focus: keeping the restaurant’s menu information current as its offering changes.
For someone considering a visit, the menu is an important part of deciding whether a restaurant is right for them. These updates keep the website connected to what sō-lō is serving, rather than simply preserving the content that was there at launch.
Alongside the quarterly menu uploads, Spotty Media provides ongoing website maintenance. The site has changed considerably since July 2024, and our work has continued beyond the original rebuild.
The arrangement brings together two parts of the brief: an Elementor website intended to be easier for the client to edit, and continuing agency support to maintain it. The current website reflects that ongoing relationship, not just a single launch project.
A website can need rebuilding even when its owner is happy with how it looks. At sō-lō, the reason for change was the framework’s compatibility limitations and the difficulty of updating the site, not a desire for a different brand identity.
The useful distinction for another restaurant owner is to consider the design, editing experience and ongoing upkeep separately. Here, retaining the preferred presentation and changing the way the website was built allowed the brief to stay focused on the actual problem.
They also upgraded our website, elevating it to better reflect our business and providing a smoother user journey. Their in-person visits, regular calls, and quick responses have ensured seamless communication, and they’ve been a fantastic sounding board for our ideas.
