The project

Spotty Media designed and built the Old Tom’s Gin Bar website with online Gin Tasting Experience purchases and automated gift-voucher delivery. Launched in 2022, the project gave the Durham bar a way to sell experiences and gifts online, alongside the food, drinks and personal service customers visit for.

A bar website built around experiences

The brief went beyond showing what Old Tom’s looked like. The business wanted a new website that could support its Gin Tasting Experiences and handle the purchase and delivery of gift vouchers.

Those requirements gave the build a clear purpose. Someone interested in a tasting needed a route to buy it, while someone choosing a present needed a way to arrange a voucher for another person. Both journeys belonged alongside the bar’s wider offer.

Bringing Gin Tasting Experiences online

We built the website and integrated the functionality for customers to purchase a Gin Tasting Experience online. This meant the purchase could happen outside the bar’s opening hours, without the customer first having to contact the team during service.

The tasting itself remained a hosted visit to Old Tom’s. Guests could arrange a suitable date, with tastings available at different times during operating hours and staff on hand to guide them through the gins. Buying the experience and agreeing when to attend were separate steps.

Taking gift vouchers out of the post

Gift vouchers were another practical part of the brief. Spotty Media introduced online purchasing with automated delivery, replacing the need for the venue to send vouchers manually by post.

That changed how the team fulfilled a gift purchase. The website could handle the online buying and delivery steps, while the bar team concentrated on the experience the recipient would enjoy when they visited.

The change the client noticed

We no longer have to manually send vouchers by post

The comment captures the operational change at the heart of this part of the project. Online voucher delivery gave the business a different way to fulfil purchases, alongside the new tasting-experience sales route.

Making the website part of the service

For Old Tom’s, the website needed to support what happened before a visit as well as represent the bar itself. A customer could explore the offer, buy an experience or choose a gift, with the venue team still responsible for hosting the occasion.

This project shows why the purchasing and fulfilment requirements matter early in a hospitality website brief. Here, the experience and voucher functions were part of the build’s purpose from the outset.
