The project

Spotty Media designed and built a new website for Tin of Sardines, bringing its Roker and Durham venues together and introducing online gift-voucher sales. Launched in 2022, the website needed to represent a shared brand while explaining the different reasons to visit each location.

Giving the Roker opening a place online

The Roker venue brought a seafront food-and-drink offer to a business already known for its Durham gin bar. Its brunch proposition and coastal setting needed room on the new website, alongside the established venue.

The website brief was to bring those offers together. A visitor discovering Roker should be able to understand that venue in its own right, without losing the connection to Tin of Sardines in Durham.

One brand, with room for each venue

We designed and built a completely new website covering both locations. This gave the group a shared online presence and a way to show what each venue offered.

The distinction was important to the project. The Durham gin bar and the Roker seafront venue belonged to the same brand, but the setting and occasion were different. The website had to accommodate that difference rather than present the two places as interchangeable.

Adding a reason to buy for someone else

Spotty Media advised Tin of Sardines to offer gift vouchers and built the capability to sell them through the website.

This introduced another customer journey alongside choosing a venue. A visitor could buy a gift for someone else, giving the website a purchasing role as well as a place to explore the bars.

A closer look at the voucher experience

In the October 2026 website views, the voucher journey includes a template selection followed by personalisation. The form has fields for the buyer’s name, recipient, voucher value and a personal message, alongside a voucher preview.

These views show how the current website presents the gift-buying process. They are current examples of the interface, not images of the original 2022 launch or a record of a completed purchase.

What this build brought together

The website combined a multi-venue presentation with a new online gift-voucher capability. It gave the Roker offer a place within the wider Tin of Sardines brand and added a way for customers to buy a gift through the site.

For a hospitality business with more than one location, that is a useful brief to resolve: what should feel shared, what needs to be specific to each venue, and what customers should be able to do once they have explored the offer.
